19.09.2026, 21:32 Uhr Long-time Bundesliga assistant coach Peter Hermann, who helped Bayern Munich win the treble in 2013, has died at age 74, his past clubs have said. Hermann "lost a long fight" against the neurodegenerative illness amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Bayern said on X. Bayern said he was "an indispensable part of the coaching staff" as assistant of Jupp Heynckes when Bayern won the Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup 13 years ago. Hermann was also assistant at clubs including Schalke, SV Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund, but he spent most his career, around three decades, at Bayer Leverkusen. “He was the assistant coach par excellence in Germany. More renowned and respected in the industry than many a head coach,” Leverkusen said. "The entire Bayer 04 family is deeply saddened by the loss of a highly esteemed person who shaped football in Leverkusen over many decades. Peter will never be forgotten."
