Clarksville Academy announced on Sept. 25 that it will play an independent football schedule for the next two seasons. Director of communications Steven Wilson said in a press release sent to The Tennessean that the decision was made after carefully considering a number of factors, with the safety and well-being of their student-athletes serving as their highest priority. It is the second DII-A football program to opt for an independent schedule due to low numbers, joining Mt. Juliet Christian Academy, which announced on Sept. 24. Juliet Christian Academy football going independent for next 2 seasons Clarksville Academy has forfeited three games this season due to low numbers: Grace Christian (Sept. 4), Friendship Christian (Sept. 18) and Montgomery Central (Sept. 25). The team is currently 0-5, including three losses on the field. "As we evaluated the competitive landscape, the significant differences in school enrollment and roster sizes became an important consideration," Wilson said in the press release. "Competing against programs nearly twice our size creates challenges that we believe must be taken seriously when it comes to player safety and long-term program health." Sean Wilson also resigned as Clarksville Academy's athletic director on Sept. 22, with middle school athletics coordinator Shannon Salyer taking over in the interim.
